Fürst Hermann von Pückler-Muskau reiste 1837 durch Ägypten und den Sudan. Das Haar gehört heute zu seinen im Schloss Branitz überlieferten Sammlungsobjekten und Reisemitbringseln. Es trägt die Beschriftung: "Haar aus der Mähne eines Elephanten".
