Die Miniatur der Invalidensäule stand vor 1945 auf dem Kamin des Schlafzimmers Wilhelms I. im Schloss Babelsberg. Das offiziell so genannte "National-Krieger-Denkmal" nach Entwürfen von Berthold Brunckow entstand in den Jahren 1850–1854 unter der Leitung von August Soller und August Stüler. Die Einweihung fand am 18. Oktober 1854 in Anwesenheit des Königs Friedrich Wilhelm IV. statt. Das Monument ehrte die in den Kämpfen der Jahre 1848/49 gefallenen Angehörigen der preußischen Armee. Es war umgeben von den Gräbern der achtzehn während der Märzkämpfe in Berlin gefallenen Soldaten. Die Säule stand im Berliner Invalidenpark (heute Habersaathstraße) und überstand den 2. Weltkrieg ohne nennenswerte Schäden. 1948 wurde das Denkmal auf Antrag der SED-Fraktion in der Berliner Stadtverordnetenversammlung beseitigt. Silke Kiesant
