The wall hanging comes from the Mayangna village of Musawas in northern Nicaragua on the Waspuk river. It depicts a landing stage with boat. The traditional house is situated above the river and has a grass/reed covering with a wood trunk roof ridge (represented by a sewn-on twig). It is probably a souvenir which Götz von Houwald either bought locally or that was given to him as a gift. The wall hanging is made of different coloured tree bark bast made from the bark of the ficus or fig tree. The back has the writing MUSAWAS embroidered on it.
