Die nach 1746 in Paris entstandene Carteluhr mit rückführender Ankerhemmung und Federantrieb und einem nicht mehr vorhandenen Schlagwerk mit Viertelstundenzugrepetition stellte der Uhrmacher Jean-François Beckaert her. Wer das aufwändige Bronzegehäuse mit Apoll als Drachentöter fertigte, ist unbekannt. Die Uhr befand sich zunächst im Schloss Berlin in der Schreibkammer Friedrichs II. von Preußen. Von dort gelangte sie in den 1820er Jahren in das Schloss Sanssouci. Sie erhielt ihren Platz im früheren ersten Gästezimmer, das dem damaligen Kronprinzen und späteren König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. als Arbeits- und Wohnzimmer diente. Silke Kiesant
