Wilhelm Gentz kam 1877 aus Algerien mit einem Abessinier zurück. Mohammed Farady arbeitete als Diener in Gentz´ Haus. Kurz vor Ende seines Lebens hielt Gentz den Abessinier in einem einfühlsamen und ausdruckstarken Porträt als eigenständige Persönlichkeit fest.
